2001 ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

Tiffany Keys
Albany High
Tiffany Keys is an all-around athlete and a senior at Albany High. Tiffany has received a monumental array of awards. In her freshman year, Tiffany received the 1997 varsity athletic award for softball, 1997-98 athletic award for basketball and 1998 athletic award for tennis. Tiffany was also awarded 1997-98 highest average award in Spanish I and she was 1997 freshman homecoming court representative. In her sophomore year Tiffany was a recipient of three 1998 varsity athletic awards, one for softball, one for basketball and one for tennis. Tiffany also received a 1998 two-year letter award for softball and a 1999 two year letter award for tennis. Also, Tiffany was awarded 1998-99 Most Improved Player in basketball and received a 1998 Gold Glove award for softball. Tiffany's junior year was just as rewarding. She received two more varsity athletic awards, one for 1999 softball and another for 2000 tennis; Tiffany also received a two-year letter award for basketball and a three-year letter award for softball. Then, she received a 1999-00 Sportsmanship Award for basketball, a 1999-0O varsity athletic award for cheerleading. A 1999 top attitude award for softball and Tiffany finished the year with becoming a semi-finalist in the 1999-2000 Miss AHS Pageant. In Tiffany's senior year she has received a 2000 varsity athletic award for softball, 2000 four year letter award for softball, the 2000 Best Defensive Player Award for softball, a 2000-01 three year letter award for basketball 2000-01 varsity athletic award for basketball and the 2001 Best Rebounder Award. Finishing her successfu tenure, Tiffany received a 2001 academic award in basketball and she was 2000-2001 second runner-up in the Miss AHS Pageant.


Rebecca Ann Brinson
Byne Memorial
Rebecca Ann Brinson a Byne Memorial senior, Rebecca is an accomplished athlete and an honor roll student. "Rebecca has been a varsity level athlete since 7th grade", says Dan Harris. Awards for softball Rebecca has received in her freshman and sophomore year include 7th grade Golden Glove, 8th grade-Best Offensive Player, and 9th grade-Most Valuable Player of both varsity and junior varsity teams. In her junior and senior year, 10th grade-State of Georgia Most Valuable Player, Most Valuable Player varsity team, highest team batting average and female Athlete of the Year, 11th grade-State of Georgia Most Valuable Player, Most Valuable Player varsity team, highest team batting average and Female Athlete of the Year. This past summer, Becky was a member of a regional softball team that took first place in two different World Series tournaments, the 2000 USSSA World tournament, the ASA National Championship and was runner-up in the 2000 NSA National Tournament. Rebecca has the school record with 19 homeruns through her junior year and with four games completed this season, she has hit ten out of the park. Rebecca has lettered in both basketball, where she received the honors of "Chairman of the Boards" and has been named to the "AII Tournament Teams" for the past three years. Rebecca was also the only senior to return to the basketball team this year, but her true sport is softball. She has even exhibited the desire to coach this past basketball season by coaching the junior varsity girls to second place in the region.


Chandler Miller
Deerfield-Windsor
Chandler Miller is a senior at Deerfield-Windsor and is the recipient of the Deerfield-Windsor Athlete of the Year. As an all-around athlete, Chandler has lettered all four years in football. In 10th grade Chandler received an Honorable Mention All-Region award in football. In 11th grade he was All-Region and named FOX 31 Offensive Player. Chandler's senior year in football included All State and All Region and he was Deerfield-Windsor Leading Rusher. In basketball Chandler has lettered all four years. He also lettered in baseball all four years and went to the state championship in 9th grade, was on the state runner-up team in 10th grade and was All-Region in 11th grade. Chandler is a member of Post 30 State Champions Team 2000, was a member of the BETA club in 9th grade and was a Key Ctub member in 12th grade. He also enjoys the sport of golf and plays the piano.


William Revills
Dougherty High
William Revills is a senior at Dougherty High and has excelled in several sports as well as academic programs. In his freshman, sophomore and junior year, William received the highest GPA award on the football team. William's 10th and 11th grades were successful and he received an award for Most Aggressive Wrestler, Most Improved Linebacker and first place at 2000 region camp in track for the 100 meter dash region 1- AAA. In 12th grade, William was named Georgia Sports Writers Association All State Linebacker, The Albany Herald's 2000 all Southwest Georgia Football Team First Defense, The Albany Herald's 2000 All Metro Football Team and Defensive Player of the Year. In 2001 William also placed third in wrestling 215- weight class. Throughout Williams four years in high school he has been involved in football, track, Tasco, FCA (Fellowship Christian Athletes) and drama. In his junior and senior years, William also was involved in Darton College Prep Club and JGG (Jobs for Georgia Graduates). William has received a football scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee.


William Johnson
Monroe Comprehensive
William Johnson is a senior at Monroe Comprehensive High School and is Monroe's Athlete of the Year. Throughout all four years of school, William has participated as a soccer player as well as run track. As a four-year track participant, William excelled in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, long jump, triple jump, 4x100-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay and the high jump. In football, he received 1st Team All Metro Area, and 1st Team All Southwest Area. Also in 2000, William led Region 1-AAAA in rushing and was 2nd in Region 1-AAAA in passing. William holds all of Monroe Comprehensive's passing records in football. William will be attending Bethune-Cookman college in Daytona Beach, Florida where he has received a football scholarship.


Jason Norris
Sherwood Christian Academy
Jason Norris is a senior at Sherwood Christian Academy and is an all-around athlete, involving himself in baseball, football and basketball throughout his four years of high school. In 1999, accomplishments include GISA Region Team for football and Team MVP. 3AAA All Region First Team and Hitman Club-.450 average for baseball. For football, GISA Region 3AAA All Region First Team, Team MVP, Best Offensive Player and Albany Herald All SWGATeam. For 2000, GISA Region 3AAA All Region First Team in baseball, GISA Region 3AAA AII Region FirstTeam for basketball, GISA Region 3AAA All Region First  He has also received Team Best Defensive Player in Basketball and was a member of Post 30 State Championship Team in Baseball.


Greg Tinch
Westover High
Greg Tinch is a senior at Westover High and is an excellent athlete in the sports in which he participates. For his four years in school he has a three-year letter in football, and a four-year letter in basketball. Greg is All Region 1AAA. He is also All South Georgia (Atlanta Tip-off Club) and All State for The Georgia Sports Writer Association. For Greg's outstanding athletic ability, he has been nominated as one of McDonald's® Top 30 All-American Athletes. Greg was selected to play in the Sonny Vaccaro Round Ball Classic April 19th on ESPN2 in Louisville and the Nike® Darby Classic. An active member in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Greg also conducts a monthly clinic at Henderson Gymnasium.
