Don Braswell - Football
Don Braswell was an All-American Football Player at Albany High School and was later chosen to the Junior College All-American Team while playing at Georgia Military College. He played on the 1957 National championship team at Auburn. Braswell started coaching at Dougherty and then spent time at Chamblee High, Towers High and Peachtree Junior High.
Pat Field - Coach
Pat Field played for the University of Georgia from 1947-1950. He led the nation in punting in 1948-1949. He was All Sec in 1949 and 1950 and the most valuable back in 1950. Field played in the North-South All Star Game in 1950 in The Orange Bowl. He was drafted by the Pittsburg Steelers in 1951, but took a coaching job at Albany High School. He coached at Albany until 1964 and then became athletic director for the Board of Education in 1965. He coached at Dougherty High School from 1968-1992.
Dr. "Mack" Freeman Jr.
Dr. Mack Freeman spent 34 years as the team physician for the Dougherty County School System. Also, he served as the physician for the Albany Sharpshooters, the SEC women's basketball tournaments and GHSA sub-region and state tournaments which were held in Albany.
Frank Orgel - Football
Coach Orgel graduated from Albany High School in 1956. While at Albany High he lettered in football, basketball and track. He attended the University of Georgia from 1957- 1961 where he played tight end under Coach Wallace Butts. The bulldogs played in the Orange Bowl and were named the SEC Champs in 1959. Coach Orgel served as the team captain while he played tight end for the Airborne Division from 1962 - 64. From 1964 - 1966, he played for the Buffalo Bills under Coach Lou Saban.
During his tenure at Warner Robbins High School, where he served as the head football coach and Athletic Director, he was named "Coach of the Year'' in 1970 and South AllStar Coach in 1971.
Coach Orgel had the opportunity to play football in the Orange Bowl 1960, Missile Bowl, 1962, AFL Championship Bowl, 1964. He had the privilege of coaching in the Independence Bowl, Tangerine Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Liberty Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Gator Bowl, Peach Bowl and the Citrus Bowl.
Coach Orgel has coached at the University of North Alabama, East Carolina University, Clemson University, Auburn University, University of South Carolina and the University of Georgia. He was inducted into the Albany Hall of Fame in 1994. He served as the Director of Athletics for the Dougherty County School System until he retired in December 2000.
