1997 INDUCTEES
Ralph Satterfield was born in 1923 in Atlanta, Ga. Ralph played both basketball and baseball in high school, and signed with Birmingham (Southern) in 1942. He played on the Airforce Post Team for baseball and basketball. After his time in the service, Ralph played for several Texas-based and a Florida-based baseball league. He was sold to a Knoxville, Tenn., organization (the Giants), who wanted Ralph to begin managing. He instead moved to Albany and began a long career coaching all levels of baseball. He umpired for high school and college games, and says he continues to coach from the stands.
   
Robert Margeson has been living in Albany since he was 4 years old. He played football in Albany from childhood through high school (Albany High School). Robert was the Touchdown Club's best defensive player as linebacker. He played for Auburn University, winning numerous awards and honors. Robert began coaching while in law school, and was head defensive coach for Riverview Academy from 1974 through 1976. He has continued to coach in Albany for various football organizations and has been a lawyer here for 19 years.
   
Robert Fowler is a native of Albany who has earned varsity letters in soccer, basketball, baseball and track. He earned 15 varsity letters while at Earlham College in football, basketball, baseball and track. He was presented with several awards while in college. Robert began coaching at Albany High School in 1955. He led Albany High's football team, as well as track and girl's basketball. Since he has left that position, Robert has continued to support athletics by volunteering in several areas and schools. He is still active, playing racquetball at the YMCA.
   
Daniel Blackshear began his career in sports as a swimmer, but also saw success in football, gymnastics, track and softball. Dan's true perfection was in diving. He received a diving scholarship to Florida State University and went on to win numerous competitions and awards. Dan was invited to the Olympic trials for the 1954 Olympics. After making the first cut in the Olympic trials, he was unable to continue, due to an injured ear drum. Dan was a City of Albany divirig champion and was in charge of the Albany Aqualympics for the Albany Jaycees in 1957.
